MANILA, Philippines - Commission on Audit commissioner Heidi Mendoza said the COA is helping in the NBI probe on the alleged P10-billion pork barrel scam by tracking the money trail.
Mendoza said the COA is reviewing the books of government agencies that disbursed funds to NGOs linked to businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles.
But she noted the testimony of whistleblower Benhur Luy won't hold water without documents to back it and that's where audit findings would be crucial.
Napoles is accused of masterminding an alleged scam that saw dummy non-government organizations receive billions of pesos in lawmakers’ pork barrel funds.
Luy has said the dummy NGOs received some P10 billion in government funds in a decade, and that the officials of the NGOs were Napoles’ employees
